Coumarin-based benzilmonohydrazone as a new proton-sensitive fluorescencedye: synthesis and investigation of photophysical and acidochromic properties

Abstract: Coumarin-based chromogenic and fluorogenic dye 4 was designed and synthesized. The photophysical properties of 4 were determined in solvents with different polarities. Protonation affinity was determined by adding trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) to a dichloromethane solution of dye 4 utilizing the UV-Vis and fluorescence titration methods. The protonation region was investigated by using the 1 H NMR method. Additionally, DFT and TDDFT studies were performed to support the structural and absorption spectral properti… Show more

“…In recent years, the development of highly sensitive and selective chemosensors for the detection of metal ions and anions has been of special interest to many researchers [1][2][3][4]. Not only because of their importance in living systems, medicine, and the environment, but also because they play essential roles in biological, chemical, ecological, and endocrine systems [5][6][7][8].…”

“…Thus, developing an efficient chemosensor for the rapid and sensitive detection of Al (III) ions is vital to comply with these standards and has gained great scientific interest among analytical chemists [3,4]. Existing methods including atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and electrochemical methods have been used for the detection of Al(III) ion [24,25].…”

“…Polymeric dyes are a novel form of dyes in which organic dyes are chemically incorporated into the main or side chains of polymer [ 1 ]. Polymeric colorants have acquired popularity, applicability, and acceptance as a viable alternative to traditional colorants (dyes and pigments) [ 2 ]. The marriage of polymer and dye chemistry enables the chemist to design unique materials that exploit the best characteristics of both pigments and dyes [ 3 ].…”
