Coverage Analysis of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Assisted THz Wireless Systems

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a theoretical framework for analyzing the performance of multi-reconfigurable intelligence surface (RIS) empowered terahertz (THz) wireless systems subject to turbulence and stochastic beam misalignment. In more detail, we extract a closed-form expression for the outage probability that quantifies the joint impact of turbulence and misalignment as well as the effect of transceivers' hardware imperfections. Our results highlight the importance of accurately modeling both turbulence a… Show more

“…change with (m, n) and, therefore, U RIS,t/r depends on the coordinates of each (m, n) element. Last, regarding the phase introduced by the RIS, it should be noted that a RIS design that aims to redirect a beam from the AP to the UE should provide the linear phase gradient given by [15], [19]:…”

“…This can be achieved by introducing required phase shifts of the discrete elements in the RIS. In addition, a suf iciently large RIS supporting the aforementioned features can be acquired within miniature footprints at high frequencies, such as the THz band [22,70,71]. RISs have already been considered for improving the coverage performance of THz indoor communications at the sea level, as in [72], where the authors have proposed a suboptimal search scheme for the RIS phase shifts.…”

“…Also, IRS can be utilized to enhance the signal coverage when the BS-IRS direct path is blocked. Coverage analyses of IRS-aided communication systems were studied in [11], [12]. The author in [3] suggested that the IRS could costeffectively overcome localized coverage holes such as urban scenarios.…”
