Abstract:Loss of the extracellular matrix following enzyme harvest of islets for transplantation renders them susceptible to a new environment, and is hypothesized to contribute to decreased graft function and survival. The matrix provides structural support for islets as well as mediating growth factor and cytokine interactions. SPARC, or secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine, is a collagen‐binding matricellular protein that plays a role in matrix assembly and regulates cellular responses to the extracellular e… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
