Critical Barriers to BIM Implementation in the AEC Industry

Abstract: Building Information Modelling (BIM) is one of the most significant technological advances in the building design and construction industry to date. Implementation of BIM has increased significantly over the past decade; and it enables the different stakeholders of a construction project to collaborate better throughout its lifecycle, and improves the opportunities to share data and decrease consumption. However, the implementation of BIM lags far behind its potential due to the existence of various barriers. … Show more

“…The Iraqi government has not shown a distinctive role in the adoption and dissemination of modern technologies in the field of the Iraqi construction sector. It is logical that the most important barriers that were nominated by the respondents are the weakness of the government efforts to implement the BIM, On the other hand, this result shows agreement with many researchers who have studied the subject of BIM [36][37][38][39][40].…”

“…All such BIM-centric concepts are useful for any kind of project delivery method. BIM software is varied due to the complexity of its usages and types of project [27,34]. BIM implementation in the US involves virtual design and construction (VDC) concepts and theories [35][36][37].…”
