“…Along with the establishment of cross-border protected areas and the placemaking of tourist attractions, these projects help invigorate business activity, with tourism infrastructure developed or improved and new tourism products created. Important for further development of tourism is the fact that "projects aim to promote networking between local tourism actors" (Makkonen et al 2018). Tourism is an economic activity that "can reinforce territorial cohesion" (Prokkola 2008), while the development of crossborder destinations is considered "part of cross-border region building processes" in the EU (Nilson et al 2010;Więckowski & Cerić 2016).…”

“…For the first time, tourism has become a research topic related to the development of the Republic of Karelia (Gromov 2003;Saveljev & Tolstoguzov 2008;Izotov & Laine 2013;Stepanova 2016;Laine 2017), in this way supplementing the vision for that area's industrial development. A number of studies concern themselves with cross-border cooperation (Morozova 2006;Shekov 2015;Makkonen et al 2018) and tourism development, with the typical focus being on the development of the relevant infrastructure (Saveljev & Tolstoguzov 2008;Shishkin & Petrova 2013) as a key factor if better business in tourism is to be done.…”

“…Although studies on cross-border tourism exist, they rarely relate to the European context (e.g. [25][26][27]) or fail to relate to cross-border tourism analysis by the gravity model. For example, Huang [28] set up a theory model of entry tourism between China and Vietnam and carried out regression analysis.…”

“…Появилось множество исследований разнообразных аспектов развития трансграничных тематических туристских маршрутов, связанных с вопросами управления, брендирования, продвижения, разработки единых стандартов обслуживания, обеспечения удобного пересечения международных границ, информационного взаимодействия, обеспечения безопасности, вовлечения местного сообщества в пунктах обслуживания маршрутов и др. (Balabanova and Ponkratova, 2016;Makkonen et al, 2018;Parikshat et al, 2014;Stephen, 2007;Stoffelen, 2018). Для устойчивого развития туристских маршрутов создаются трансграничные партнерства (Timothy, 1999), а в качестве участников вовлечены государства как на уровне правительств и межправительственных организаций, так и общественных структур, культурных, религиозных, образовательных, волонтерских организаций, СМИ (Tourism basics, 2014, p.41].…”
