Cross Sections for the Production of Radionuclides by Proton-Induced Reactions on W, Ta, Pb and Bi from Thresholds up to 2.6 GeV

Abstract: Extending our earlier work on cross sections for the production of residual nuclides by proton-induced reactions, the production of radionuclides from the target elements Ta, W, Pb, and Bi was investigated from thresholds up to 2.6 GeV using accelerators at LNS/Saclay, PSUVilligen, and TSUUppsala. Residual nuclides were measured by X-and i-spectrometry. We obtained more than 5000 new individual cross sections for 402 reactions. Together with the yet not published cross sections for the target elements Rb, Mo, … Show more

“…For a wide range masses from target-near to spallation products, both codes, TALYS and INCL4+ABLA, adequately reproduce the experimental cross sections varying by 5 orders of magnitude over the entire range of energies for. In contrast to earlier evaluations [4][5][6][7][8], the new codes also give reasonable results for all fission products. Proton energy in MeV…”

“…During the HINDAS project the data base was extended to the heavy target elements Ta, W, Pb, and Bi [5][6][7][8]. Further, about 560 new cross sections for the production of 19 radionuclides from the target element iron have been measured from thresholds up to 2.6 GeV.…”

“…As example Figure 1 shows the ratio between 183 Ta production cross-sections in natural tungsten calculated with INCL4.6-Abla07 compared to the experimental data [8][9]. Three lines were added to emphasize ratios equal to 2 (0.5) and 1.…”
