Crowdsourcing in Logistics: An Evaluation Scheme

Abstract: Crowdsourcing concepts are a major development in the context of social media and Industry 4.0 as well as a possible enabler for dynamic logistics processes and concepts. In the light of increasing sustainability, flexibility, and security expectations towards global supply chains, solutions for logistics based on crowdsourcing may be promising-but still the proof of concept is missing for logistics applications in practice. Combined with a theoretical framework for crowdsourcing in logistics, this contributio… Show more

“…As an example, crowd-delivery services operate on a parcel level (e.g., the driver/agent only performs one delivery) and do not take advantage of consolidation. Setting appropriate prices should take into account a large number of small and low-valued single activities performed by different agents (Klumpp, 2017). Other pricing mechanisms, such as the bidding system proposed in Kafle et al (2017), could be leveraged to address such issues.…”

“…As with most crowd-sourced activities, reaching critical mass is key to a successful implementation of the concept (Agatz et al, 2012;Klumpp, 2017). Combined with the fact that business-toconsumer (B2C) e-commerce ends at the customer's preferred location (e.g.…”

“…This model is gaining popularity, and its main purpose is engaging a wide range of people (mostly using innovative technologies) in a given project [24]. This approach has a huge potential to rise, but the development of various initiatives within crowdsourcing is dependent on the growth of modern technologies [25][26][27][28][29]. As a consequence of the sharing economy development [30,31], new models and solutions that were based on access to assets rather than ownership have emerged [32,33].…”

“…Mladenow pointed out that in the crowdsourcing logistics operation, there are leakage of customer information, poor quality of delivered items, undelivered delivery, etc., and corresponding countermeasures are given for these problems [1] . (2) Evaluation of the quality of crowdsourcing logistics services. Klummp evaluated the service quality of crowdsourcing logistics through the combination of theory and practice [2] .…”
