Cryptotanshinone from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen) inhibited inflammatory responses via TLR4/MyD88 signaling pathway

Abstract: Background: Cryptotanshinone (CPT), as a major component of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen), displays many pharmacological activities including anti-inflammatory effects. However, the exact cellular and molecular mechanisms of the anti-inflammatory activities of CPT remain to be elucidated. The present study was aimed to clarify its mechanisms on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses in mouse macrophages, RAW264.7 cells. Methods: In the current study, the anti-inflammatory properties of CP… Show more

“…Administration of CT upregulates the expression of miR‐106a‐5p to inhibit GLI‐similar 3 (GLIS3), resulting in amelioration of osteoarthritis (Ji et al, 2018). Dual modulation of NF‐κB and Nrf2 signaling pathways lead to excellent anti‐inflammatory activity of CT (Li et al, 2020). It is held that the capability of CT in regulation of miRs can lead to its hepatoprotective impacts.…”

“…It has been found in many studies that drugs can suppress the inflammatory response through the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 TNF drives the release of itself and other proinflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-1β and IL-6) [ 29 , 30 ] and participates in the systemic inflammatory response. It is one of the cytokines that contribute to the acute phase response.…”

“…Of note, not only does the generation of ROS mediate the above aspects, but also it promotes in ammatory response [54]. TNF-α is a crucial pro-in ammatory cytokine, which exerts key effects in the synthesis and release of in ammatory mediators, complement activation, and other physiological responses [38].…”
