Crystal Growth and Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of KIO3·Te(OH)6

Abstract: A single crystal of the nonlinear optical material KIO3·Te(OH)6 (KTI) with dimensions of 37 × 7 × 5 mm3 was successfully grown at room temperature by slow evaporation. Linear and nonlinear optical measurements were performed on these crystals. Rocking curve measurements indicate that the single crystal is of high quality with a full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of 0.023° (82 arcseconds) from the (010) reflection. Refractive index measurements revealed a birefringence of 0.0545 @ 1064 nm. Through the refractiv… Show more

“… 22 The TG curve in the range of 370–1000 °C shows a total mass loss of 80.9%, which corresponds to the decomposition process of three I 2 O 5 molecules. 23 The loss is consistent with the calculated value of 82.0%.…”

“…Thus the correct choice of the non‐centrosymmetric space group R 3 and the refinement of HP‐Mg 3 TeO 6 as inversion twin can be confirmed . In the fields of tellurate compounds with Te 6+ cations, the maximum SHG signal of 1.2 × KH 2 PO 4 (KDP) were measured for KIO 3 · Te(OH) 6 and Ni 2.5 Mg 0.5 TeO 6 . A grain size dependence of the SHG signals was not performed.…”

“…Tellurium in the oxidation state +6 has no stereoactive lone‐pairs electrons left. Nevertheless, a variety of non‐centrosymmetric compounds containing Te 6+ oxyanions, like potassium tellurates: (K 8 (Te 6 O 17 (OH) 10 )) · (KOH) 0.5 · (H 2 O) 16 , K 8.5 (H 9 Te 6 O 27 ) · 0.5(H 3 O) · 17(H 2 O), telluric acid‐ammonium dihydrogenphosphate: (Te(OH) 6 )((NH 4 )H 2 PO 4 ) 2 ((NH 4 ) 2 HPO 4 ), potassium iodate telluric acid: KIO 3 · Te(OH) 6 are known. Furthermore, alkali sulfate tellurates: (Na 2 (SO 4 ))(Te(OH) 6 ), CsK(SO 4 )Te(OH) 6 , (Rb 1.12 (NH 4 ) 0.88 (SO 4 ))(Te(OH) 6 ), the alkali selenate tellurate: K 2 (SeO 4 )(Te(OH) 6 ), and the tellurate K 3 Na 2 LiTeO 6 were reported to crystallize acentric.…”
