Crystal structure and electronic properties of new uranium intermetallic compound UGa1.85Zr0.15

0.15 . -The title compound, prepared by arc melting of the elements, is characterized by single crystal XRD, magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and specific heat measurements. UGa1.85Zr0.15 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm (Pu3Pd5-type structure). In the structure the U atoms occupy entirely the 8e sites and share the 4c sites with Zr. Ga atoms occupy three non-equivalent positions, one of them is shared with Zr. The title compound has a ferromagnetic ground state below 23 K and shows interesting metamagnetic behavior with a critical field of 2-3 T, which increases with increasing temperature. -(HAVELA, L.; ANDREEV*, A.
