Crystal structure of the intermetallic compound SrCdPt

Abstract: The crystal structure of the title compound, strontium cadmium platinum, adopts the TiNiSi structure type with the Sr atoms on the Ti, the Cd atoms on the Ni and the Pt atoms on the Si positions, respectively. The Pt atoms form cadmium-centred tetrahedra that are condensed into a three-dimensional network with channels parallel to the b-axis direction in which the Sr atoms are located. The latter are bonded to each other in the form of six-membered rings with chair conformations. All atoms in the SrCdPt struct… Show more

“…The calcium phase Ca 6 Cd 16 Pt 8 contains a three-dimensional array of isolated Cd 8 tetrahedral stars (TS) and a face-centred cube of Pt@Ca 6 octahedra (Samal et al, 2013) whilst the structure of Ca 6 Cd 11 Pt crystallizes in its own structure type consisting of apically interbonded Cd 7 pentagonal bipyramids and five-membered rings of Ca atoms (Gulo et al, 2013). The strontium phase SrCd 4 Pt 2 is made up of chains of edge-sharing Cd 4 tetrahedra bridged by four-bonded Sr atoms (Samal et al, 2013) and SrCdPt presents six-membered rings of Sr atoms in a chair conformation (Gulo & Kö hler, 2014). The barium phase BaCd 2 Pt exhibits zigzag chains of Ba atoms and Pt-centred boat and anti-boat conformations formed by six-membered rings of Cd atoms (Gulo & Kö hler, 2015).…”

“…A search of the Pearson's Crystal Data -Crystal Structure Database for Inorganic Compounds (Villars & Cenzual, 2015) for the Sr/Cd/Pt family of compounds returned two compounds only: SrCd 4 Pt 2 (Samal et al, 2013) and SrCdPt (Gulo & Kö hler, 2014).…”
