[Cu(μ-MeCO 2 ) 2 (4-Bzpy)] 2 (4-Bzpy = 4-benzylpyridine): Study of the intermolecular C H⋯O hydrogen bonds at two temperatures

Abstract: Cu(m-MeCO2)2(4-Bzpy)]2 (4-Bzpy ¼ 4-benzylpyridine) has been synthesized by reaction of [Cu(m-MeCO2)2(H2O)]2 with 4-Bzpy in methanol at room temperature. The compound was characterized by Elemental Analysis, ATR-FTIR and X-ray Powder Diffraction. The molecular structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis at 100 K and 303 K. The compound consists of binuclear units where both Cu(II) atoms are linked by four syn-syn carboxylate bridges, showing a paddle-wheel unit. The role of CeH/O hydro… Show more

“…The observed activity enhancement after complexation reflects the importance of the metal center as well as the N-donor ligands for the reaction with the radical in this assay. The copper complexes acquire additional superoxide-dismuting centers leading to superior antioxidant activity [57] . Notably, the chloro substituted phenylacetic acid ( HL 1 ) is a better DPPH radical scavenger than the fluoro substituted phenyl acetic acid ( HL 2 ).…”

“…The combination of copper(II) salts with aromatic or alkyl carboxylic acids R-COOH often yield binculear paddlewheel complexes [1][2][3]. The vacant axial position can be occupied by various ligands L, whereas pyridines and its derivatives are most frequently used [4][5][6][7]. Due to the robustness and reliability of the preparation with numerous combinations of R and L (see Scheme 1) and due to advantageous coordination geometry in axial direction, such paddle-wheel structures have been used for the synthesis of MOFs, coordination polymers, and related materials [8][9][10].…”

“…Although the syntheses were performed starting from Zn(CO3) [8a] or ZnCl2 [8d] in this work has been performed with ZnO. Three of them ([8a,b,d]) were elucidated at a different temperature (in this paper at 100 K while the reported structures around 295 K) exhibiting variation in the intermolecular interactions (vide infra) as previously reported in our group [23]. The last structure [8c] was not studied and presented as a CSD communication.…”
