ObjectiveTo map the recommendations for hospitalised patient safety in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.DesignScoping review using the method recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute.Data sourcesDatabases: Medline, SCOPUS, EMBASE, ScienceDirect, LILACS, CINAHL and IBECS; grey literature platform: Google Scholar; and 11 official websites of leading healthcare institutions were searched on 27 April 2021 and updated on 11 April 2022.Eligibility criteriaWe included documents that present recommendations for the safety of hospitalised patients in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, published in any language, from 2020 onwards.Data extraction and synthesisData extraction was performed in pairs with consensus rounds. A descriptive analysis was carried out to present the main characteristics of the articles. Qualitative data from the extraction of recommendations were analysed through content analysis.ResultsOne hundred and twenty-five documents were included. Most papers were identified as expert consensus (n=56, 44.8%). Forty-six recommendations were identified for the safety of hospitalised patients: 17 relating to the reorganisation of health services related to the flow of patients, the management of human and material resources and the reorganisation of the hospital environment; 11 on the approach to the airways and the prevention of the spread of aerosols; 11 related to sanitary and hygiene issues; 4 about proper use of personal protective equipment and 3 for effective communication.ConclusionsThe recommendations mapped in this scoping review present the best practices produced so far and serve as a basis for planning and implementing good practices to ensure safe hospital care, during and after COVID-19. The engagement of everyone involved in the care of hospitalised patients is essential to consolidate the mapped recommendations and provide dignified, safe and quality care.

ObjectivesNursing care is one of the most important tasks of nursing. Providing safe and high-quality nursing care will improve the patient as soon as possible and reduces the complications of the disease. Due to the corona epidemic in the last year, nurses cannot provide all the necessary care for patients; a series of care is eliminated or delayed or reduced, which is called missed nursing care. So, this study aimed to investigate the missed nursing care and the reasons affecting it in the corona wards in Ardabil.Study designThe research is conducted in a cross-sectional manner. The research included 135 nurses who worked in Ardabil's corona wards.Data collection/extraction methodsThe Missed Nursing Care Questionnaire, was used to collect data. The significance level of statistical tests set at 0.05.Principal findingsMost of whom were women, 135 nurses participated in the study and had a bachelor's degree in nursing. Supportive and necessary care is missed more than other care; According to nurses, the most common reasons for the missed care were emergencies, low staffing, and an increase in the number of patients.ConclusionsAs a result of the findings, being in a fresh and uncertain situation, as well as an increase in the number of patients, has resulted in a loss of nursing care. By controlling these factors, the missed care in the ward can be controlled, and increase the satisfaction of patients and nurses.

Aim To explore the perception of education and professional development of final-year nursing students who carried out health relief tasks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Background The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a global health emergency. This situation has exacerbated the need for additional healthcare employees, forcing the Spanish government to incorporate volunteer nursing students as auxiliary health staff. Design A qualitative study framed in the constructivist paradigm. Methods Twenty-two students of nursing were recruited. A purposeful sampling was implemented until reaching saturation. A semi-structured interview as a conversational technique was used to collect information based on three dimensions: academic curriculum, disciplinary professional development, and patient care. Subsequently, a content analysis of the information was carried out. Three phases were followed in the data analysis process: theoretical, descriptive-analytical, and interpretive. The COREQ checklist was used to evaluate the study. Results The most important results are linked to the students’ professional and academic preparation, how the nurses handled the pandemic situation and the characteristics of the COVID-19 patients. Conclusions Students require training in order to offer holistic care to patients, adapted to the context. Participants highlight the importance of professional values and recognize a high level of competence and autonomy in nurses.
