An elegant approach was made to synthesize tetragonal shape SnO2 nanoparticles using solution combustion method and subjected to various characterization (X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV‐Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV‐DRS), Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, Raman spectra, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA), X‐ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), N2 adsorption‐desorption isotherms (BET), liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry (LCMS). Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and Zeta potential (ZP), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X‐rays analysis (EDAX), and High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM)). Further, the as‐synthesized SnO2 nanoparticles were used for the degradation study of hazardous ionic dyes like cationic dye Malachite green (MG) and anionic dye Rose Bengal (RB), as well as its binary mixture (MG+RB) under the sunlight. Overall, it was observed that MG and RB degraded 100 % (80 min) and 99 % (90 min), while the mixture of (MG+RB) showed 97.5 % (140 min), respectively. Overall study shows that the degradation rate of MG in a mixture of both the dyes was higher than RB due to a positively charged surface. The time taken for degradation MG was 10 min less than that of RB. The fast degradation of MG was due to the cationic nature having a positive charge over the surface with the negatively charged surface of SnO2 nanoparticles, which is entirely different in the case of anionic dye RB.

Peatlands are the most carbon-dense ecosystems on earth. In tropical mountains, peatlands are numerous and susceptible to rapid degradation and carbon loss after human disturbances. Quantifying where peatlands are located and how they are affected by land use is key in creating a baseline of carbon stocks and greenhouse gas fluxes from tropical mountain peatlands. However, mapping peatlands in the páramo of the Northern Andes is difficult because they are in a topographically complex environment with nearly continuous cloud cover and frequent conversion to pastures or cropland. The goal of this effort was to identify the different types of páramo peatlands and their degradation patterns in the Colombian Central Cordillera. Moderate resolution cloud-free composites of optical imagery, temporal variance in ALOS- PALSAR L-band SAR, Sentinel-1 C-band SAR, and topography data were used as inputs in a machine learning classifier to identify was used to map 12 land cover classes including peatlands with natural vegetation and peatlands converted to pasture. Field data from 507 control points collected across the study area, including information on the vegetation and carbon content on the top 20 cm of the soil, were used to train and validate the classifier. Results show that the use of multiple platforms and image dates, including variance of the radar returns, is necessary for a clear separation of disturbed and undisturbed peatland classes. Peatland area varied across the study region, covering 7% and 20% of the landscape in the northern and southern portions of the study area, respectively. Disturbed peatlands with exotic grasses cover nearly 2% of the area. The overall accuracy of the peatland classes was 82.6%. Disturbed peatlands with exotic grasses had less carbon in the top 20 cm than undisturbed peatlands with natural vegetation. These results highlight the prevalence of peatlands in the tropical Andes and a promising approach to detecting peatlands converted to agriculture. Understanding the distribution and extent of these carbon dense ecosystems can facilitate the restoration and protection of peatlands in the northern Andes, with implications for the future trajectories of the national greenhouse gas inventory.

In this study, we fabricated a polymer light emitting diode (PLED) and investigated its electrical and optical characteristics in order to examine the effects of the PFO [poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-2-7-diyl) end capped with N,N-bis(4methylphenyl)-4-aniline] concentrations in the emission layer (EML). The PFO polymer was dissolved in toluene ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 wt%, and then spin-coated. To verify the influence of the TPBI [2,2',2"-(1,3,5-Benzinetriyl)-tris(1-phenyl-1-H-benzimidazole)] electron transport layer, TPBI small molecules were deposited by thermal evaporation. The current density, luminance, wavelength and current efficiency characteristics of the prepared PLED devices with and without TPBI layer at various PFO concentrations were measured and compared. The luminance and current efficiency of the PLED devices without TPBI layer were increased, from 117 to 553 cd/m 2 and from 0.015 to 0.110 cd/A, as the PFO concentration increased from 0.2 to 1.0 wt%. For the PLED devices with TPBI layer, the luminance and current efficiency were 1724 cd/m 2 and 0.501 cd/A at 1.0 wt% PFO concentration. The CIE color coordinators of the PLED device with TPBI layer at 1.0 wt% PFO concentration showed a more pure blue color compared with the one without TPBI, and the CIE values varied from (x, y) = (0.21, 0.23) to (x, y) = (0.16, 0.11).
