“…The most nutritive medium, BBM, was more favorable for FAME accumulation. However, media with less nitrogen may favor the increase of FAME as observed by Menezes et al (2016).…”

“…The semi-continuous system is a good alternative to cultivate A. obliquus and under optimized conditions can produce 586 mg L -1 day -1 of dry biomass and 48% of lipid content (Feng et al 2014), which is satisfactory for biodiesel production. Thus, adopting an estimate for the production of biomass in semi-continuous system with daily removal of 25% of the volume of A. obliquus on the seventh day of cultivation (Lourenço 2006) and considering a raceway with 3 million liters (1 hectare or 10,000 m 2 with depth of 0.3 m) and 300 days of cultivation per year (Slade and Bauen 2013;Menezes et al 2016), A. obliquus used in this study can produce an average of 600.0 kg ha -1 day -1 or 180.00 t ha -1 year -1 of dry biomass in DAF medium; 691.5 kg ha -1 day -1 or 207.45 t ha -1 year -1 in the DAF ? OGR; and 689.25 kg ha -1 day -1 or 206.78 t ha -1 year -1 in the BBM.…”

“…Considering the environmental sustainability, like biodiesel production, taking account that European legislation (European Committee, 2008) establishes a maximum of 12% for linoleic acid and 1% for polyunsaturated acids (PUFA) (EN 14214). In addition to linolenic acid, γ-linolenic acid (C16:3 cis 6,9,12), C16:3 and C17:3 may also be present in microalgae species (Soares et al., 2013; Menezes et al., 2016). Since these are similar to linolenic acid, they need to be taken into consideration.…”

“…The gas chromatography coupled to flame ionization detector (GC-FID) is a powerful tool to detect and characterize FAME. These substances are thermally stable (Soares et al, 2013(Soares et al, , 2014 and it is the most applied method for the FAME analysis in vegetables, fruits, animal and microorganisms (Cossignani et al, 2011;Menezes et al, 2016;Blasi et al, 2017;Gouveia et al, 2017).…”
