Curing behavior and mechanical properties of hollow glass microsphere/bisphenol a dicyanate ester composites

Abstract: Hollow glass microsphere (HGS)/bisphenol A dicyanate ester (BADCy) composites have been prepared by mechanical mixing, followed by a stepped curing process. The effect of HGS on the curing behavior of BADCy was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The mechanical properties of the composites were examined by mechanical tests, and the improvements of the mechanical properties were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and dynamic m… Show more

“…The highly symmetrical crosslinked structure of triazine rings and a few polar groups result in good dielectric properties (dielectric constant of 3.0–4.0 and dielectric loss of 0.005–0.010), which reveals good stability in a wide range of temperature and electric field frequency. Furthermore, a large number of aromatic rings, aryl and heterocyclic linkages and the unique triazine rings make CE resins possess high mechanical strength, excellent heat resistance properties, and high dimensional stabilities . Therefore, CE resins display potential application in radomes and antenna system of aircrafts.…”

“…To optimize the compatibility between cyanate esters and other resins, special monomers may be designed. An interesting strategy towards high-performance epoxy/ cyanate ester systems has been described recently [5,25,71,72] where micro-capsulated composites of cyanate and epoxy resins have been prepared and shown to be of good mechanical and electrical performance. The novel cyanate ester monomers carried allyl functionalities in order to improve formation of interpenetrating networks with BMI [83].…”
