Global business is changing at pace in both form and complexity, demanding innovative solutions. Change is no longer an option; it is crucial to the ongoing success of global businesses. Leadership that encourage innovation and entrepreneurial orientation involves the creation and maintenance of congruence and consistency in workplace practices.Today's global leaders are the embodiment of change, but too often, they are sent to manage cultures they know little about. In attempting to forge a work culture that supports high productivity, they may be inclined to fall back on tried and tested approaches from their country of origin, which often prove to be inappropriate in the adoptive country.Curiosity, as a motivator of exploratory behaviour, serves to overcome the lack of knowledge. The management of diversity in the workplace is essential as global organisations expand into transition economies. Managers need to be skilful in modifying workplace practices and procedures to create shared perceptions that support innovation and entrepreneurship. This paper argues for congruency, as well as consistency, across ten key areas of leadership practices to meet the ongoing challenges associated with transporting entrepreneurship into transition economies.

High levels of education, occupational complexity and/or premorbid intelligence are associated with lower levels of cognitive impairment than would be expected from a given brain pathology. This has been observed across a range of conditions including Alzheimer's Disease (Roe, et al., 2010), stroke (Ojala-Oksala, et al., 2012), traumatic brain injury (Kesler, et al., 2003), and penetrating brain injury (Grafman, 1986). This cluster of factors, which seemingly protect the brain from expressing symptoms of damage, has been termed 'cognitive reserve' (Stern, 2012). The current review considers one possible neural network which may contribute to cognitive reserve. Based on evidence that the neurotransmitter noradrenaline mediates cognitive reserve's protective effects (Robertson, 2013) this review identifies the neurocognitive correlates of noradrenergic (NA) activity. These involve a set of inter-related cognitive processes (arousal, sustained attention, response to novelty and awareness) with a strongly right hemisphere, fronto-parietal localization, along with working memory which is also strongly modulated by NA. It is proposed that this set of processes is one plausible candidate for partially mediating the protective effects of cognitive reserve. In addition to its biological effects on brain structure and function, NA function may also facilitate networks for arousal, novelty, attention, awareness and working memory which collectively provide for a set of additional, cognitive, mechanisms that help the brain adapt to age-related changes and disease. It is hypothesized that to the extent that the lateral surface of the right prefrontal lobe and/or the right inferior parietal lobe maintain structural (white and grey matter) and functional integrity and connectivity, cognitive reserve should benefit and behavioral expression of pathological damage should thus be mitigated.

Zusammenfassung: Dieser reviewartikel betrachtet das thema "Altern und Lernen" aus der perspektive der entwicklungspsychologie der Lebensspanne. Danach ist Altern ein kontinuierlicher prozess, der nicht klar von früheren Lebensphasen abgrenzbar ist, multidimensional verläuft und in allen Altersphasen potenziale für Veränderung (plastizität) in sich birgt. Gegeben wird ein Überblick über altersgebundene Veränderungen in zwei Funktionsbereichen, die beide für Bildungs-und Lernprozesse von hoher relevanz sind. Dies betrifft entwicklungs-und Alternsprozesse einerseits im Bereich kognitiver ressourcen sowie andererseits im Bereich von persönlichkeit, Motivation und emotion. Dabei werden auch entwicklungskontexte diskutiert, die plastizität in diesen ressourcen begünstigen. Die empirische Forschung lässt den Schluss zu, dass Lernen bis ins hohe erwachsenenalter möglich ist, wenngleich unter veränderten Bedingungen und Voraussetzungen. Accordingly, aging is regarded as a continuous and multidimensional process which is characterized by a potential for change (plasticity) at all ages. we give an overview of age-related changes in two psychological domains which are considered to be highly relevant for learning processes, namely cognitive resources and resources related to personality, motivation and emotion. In addition, we describe developmental contexts which were shown to Z erziehungswiss (2009) contribute to plasticity in the second half of life. Die späteren Lebensabschnitte interessieren dabei in zweierlei hinsicht: erstens stellt sich die Frage, wie frühe entwicklung spätere Entwicklung beeinflussen. Hier kann man zum Beispiel die Frage stellen, wie Investitionen in die schulische Bildung von kindern und Jugendlichen deren späteres Leben beeinflusst.
