The transport properties of a 5-mm-wide practical PLD-GdBa 2 Cu 3 O y (GdBCO) coated conductor, which has a 100 μm thickness copper stabilizer, was evaluated. Critical currents were measured up to 600 A in magnetic fields (parallel and perpendicular to the conductor surface) up to 12 T and in a temperature range of 4.2 to 85 K. The temperature dependence of n-value and the power law decay of J c in low field were evaluated. I c anisotropy and pinning properties were also discussed. The results suggest that random pinning dominates the pinning mechanism of the practical GdBCO coated conductor.
