Cutting pattern of Flexogate instruments in plastic blocks

Abstract: Design modifications of endodontic instruments have been made to improve instrumentation in curved root canals. A new instrument, the Flexogate (Maillefer), has been introduced to overcome some of the problems associated with preparation of the apical part of the root canal. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cutting pattern of Flexogates in curved canals (45 degrees) in clear plastic blocks, prepared by four different operators. Image analysis was used to take accurate measurements of canal shap… Show more

“…Baumganner et al (23) used a histomorphometric computerized technique but only measured the entire area of the canal. However, in this study, the amount of material removed from fixed points along the canal was rneasured in microns by an accurate computerized imaging system (15). Statistical analysis highlighted the differences between files or techniques at each position of the canal.…”

“…One hundred plastic blocks were constructed using a modification of existing methods (14,15). A special former was constructed to produce standardized 40" curvatures of size 20 silver points (Produits Dentaires, Vevey, Switzerland), which were annealed.…”

“…For this reason, several practice models have been designed. Simulated root canals in transparent epoxy resin blocks, [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][26][27][28][29][30] in artiicial dentin material, 31 or in artificial teeth produced individually 10,32 that allow students or endodontists to simulate shaping, cleaning, and illing of root canals have been described. Despite all advantages and possibilities of the use of acryl blocks with root canal equivalents or artiicial teeth, the hardness and abrasive characteristics of resin material and dentin are not comparable.…”

“…It is a prerequisite for every clinical root canal treatment that the dentist fully masters the materials used and their related methods. In predoctoral endodontic education, in continuing education courses, and in the context of scientiic examinations, endodontic treatments are carried out on simulated root canals in resin blocks, [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] on artiicial teeth manufactured individually, [9][10][11][12] and on extracted human teeth. [13][14][15][16] For the fastening of extracted teeth, various do-it-yourself methods are being used.…”
