Abstract:Abstract:The induction of acrosome reaction (AR) happens when starfish spermatozoa encounter the egg jelly (EJ). This complex process involves different signal transduction pathways, such as elevation of cAMP and the activation of protein kinase A (PKA). The specific inhibitors of PKA (H89 and KT5720) have been shown to inhibit the EJ-induced Ca 2+ elevation and AR. By using a Phospho-Ser/Thr PKA substrate antibody, we have detected an increased phosphorylation of 150, 200 and 220-kDa protein bands when starfi… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
