Cycloadditionen von 3,4‐Dimethoxyfuran an Dienophile

Abstract: Herrn Prof. Andre Dreiding zum 60. Geburtstag gewidmet (18.VI. 79) On cycloaddition reactions with 3,4-dimethoxyfuran SummaryWe describe new cycloadditions of 3,4-dimethoxyfuran (3,4-DF, 1) with various dienophiles. In contrast to furan, the reaction of 3,4-DF With maleic anhydride gives exo-and endo-adducts at approximately the same rate. The thermodynamically more stable product is again the exo-product. Less active dienophiles lead also to mixtures of exo-and endo-adducts, exept for citraconic anhydride (me… Show more

“…Initial studies were performed with the ester (12) in THF at -78°C (Scheme 4). The silyl enol ether (19) was formed in high yield. However, when the temperature was lowered to -90°C, reaction with the same electrophiles led to a mixture of the alcohol (18) and the desired adduct.…”

“…It has recently been found that under thermal conditions 1 easily reacts with maleic anhydride and its monomethyl derivative, but not with dimethylmaleic anhydride (2) [3]. This is probably due to steric hindrance resulting from the location of two methyl groups on the double bond of the dienophile.…”
