Cypermethrin elimination using Fe-TiO2 nanoparticles supported on coconut palm spathe in a solar flat plate photoreactor

Abstract: In this research, the photocatalytic degradation of cypermethrin using iron-titanium dioxide (Fe-TiO2) nanoparticles supported in a biomaterial was evaluated. The nanoparticles of TiO2 were synthesized by the green chemistry method assisted by ultrasound and doped by chemical impregnation using Fe+3:Ti molar ratios of 0, 0.05, 0.075 and 0.1 to make efficient use of direct sunlight ( λ > 310 nm). All nanoparticles were immobilized on the surface of coconut spathe ( Cocos nucifera). The degradation was carrie… Show more

“…FTIR spectrum also indicates that the absorbance rate is higher in the IR region (1632 cm −1 ) [ 36 ], indicating the surface hydroxylation upon doping TiO 2 with Fe. Ti-O stretching appeared between 520–735 cm −1 [ 40 ]. These bands serve an active role in improving the efficiency of photocatalysts for RB5 decolorization [ 39 ].…”

“…Forestry wastes such as coconut palm spathe have been used as supports for green Fe-TiO 2 -NP and used for photocatalytic degradation of cypermethrin, reaching more than 80% degradation. 139 Natural seashell waste was utilized to support Ag-NP by a simple and green method using B. persicum seed extract. 140 The Ag-NP/seashell nanocomposite showed great catalytic reduction of different organic dyes.…”

“…The direct photolysis process was performed to determine the sensitivity degree of a 40 mg/L acetaminophen solution exposed to solar irradiation in the absence of the catalyst until a minimum equivalent radiation of 8,000 J/m 2 was reached. Equation 6 was used to calculate the degradation percentage in the photolysis, adsorption, and heterogeneous photocatalysis processes [40].…”
