Cytotoxicity of Cyclodipeptides fromPseudomonas aeruginosaPAO1 Leads to Apoptosis in Human Cancer Cell Lines

Abstract: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen of plants and animals, which produces virulence factors in order to infect or colonize its eukaryotic hosts. Cyclodipeptides (CDPs) produced by P. aeruginosa exhibit cytotoxic properties toward human tumor cells. In this study, we evaluated the effect of a CDP mix, comprised of cyclo(L-Pro-L-Tyr), cyclo(L-Pro-L-Val), and cyclo(L-Pro-L-Phe) that were isolated from P. aeruginosa, on two human cancer cell lines. Our results demonstrated that the CDP mix promoted… Show more

“…The cyclic dipeptides present in MUM273b extract are (3R,8aS)‐3‐methyl‐1,2,3,4,6,7,8,8a‐octahydropyrrolo[1,2a]pyrazine‐1,4‐dione ( 13 ), pyrrolo[1,2a]pyrazine‐1,4‐dione, hexahydro ( 14 ), 1,4‐diaza‐2,5‐dioxo‐3‐isobutyl bicyclo[4.3.0]nonane ( 15 ), 2,5‐piperazinedione, 3‐(1‐methylethyl)‐6‐(phenylmethyl)‐ ( 17 ), 3‐benzyl‐1,4‐diaza‐2,5‐dioxobicyclo[4.3.0]nonane ( 18 ). A number of studies have also reported the detection of these cyclic dipeptides in the fermentation broth of microbes (Ser, Palanisamy, et al, ; Vazquez‐Rivera et al, ; Würth, Barbieri, & Florio, ). These cyclic dipeptides were shown to exhibit antioxidant activities (Ser, Palanisamy, et al, ; Tan, Ser, et al, ).…”
