D4-branes wrapped on a spindle

Federico Faedo,
Dario Martelli

Abstract: We construct supersymmetric AdS 4 × Σ solutions of D = 6 gauged supergravity, where Σ is a two-dimensional orbifold known as a spindle. These uplift to solutions of massive type IIA supergravity using a general prescription, that we describe. We argue that these solutions correspond to the near-horizon limit of a system of N f D8-branes, together with N D4-branes wrapped on a spindle, embedded as a holomorphic curve inside a Calabi-Yau three-fold. The dual field theories are d = 3, N = 2 SCFTs that arise from … Show more

“…Finally, similar spacetimes have been recently studied in supergravity with negative cosmological constant. In particular, the resulting near-horizon geometry of branes wrapping spindles corresponds to a direct product of the type AdS × Σ where Σ is a spindle [72][73][74]. For instance, it is argued that the near-horizon limit of a M2-brane wrapped around a spindle is described by a well-known classical solution, the Plebanski-Demianski metric [75,76].…”

“…They are also closely related to compactifications of the seven dimensional theory on spindles -two dimensional compact surfaces with conical deficits which have been studied extensively in the past two years (see e.g. [10][11][12][13][14][15]). Both constructions start with a ansatz AdS 5 × S 1 warped over a real coordinate.…”

“…Interestingly, these solutions realize the supersymmetry in different ways from very well studied topological twist in field theory, [2], and in gravity, [3]. It was first constructed from D3branes, [1,4,5], and then generalized to other branes: M2-branes, [6,7,8,9], M5-branes, [10], and D4-branes, [11,12]. Furthermore, two possible ways of realizing supersymmetry, topologically topological twist and anti-twist, were studied, [13,14].…”
