Data-driven dissection of emission-line regions in Seyfert galaxies

Abstract: Aims. Indirectly resolving the line-emitting gas regions in distant Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) requires both high-resolution photometry and spectroscopy (i.e. through reverberation mapping). Emission in AGN originates on widely different scales; the broad-line region (BLR) has a typical radius less than a few parsec, the narrow-line region (NLR) extends out to hundreds of parsecs. But emission also appears on large scales from heated nebulae in the host galaxies (tenths of kpc). Methods. We propose a novel, … Show more

“…On the other hand, others have reported environmental differences between various types of AGN (obscured, unobscured, luminous, faint, FRI, FRII, etc.). In particular, Koulouridis et al (2006) and Villarroel & Korn (2016) found that Seyfert-2 galaxies (Sy2) have close neighbours more frequently than Seyfert-1 galaxies (Sy1). In addition, these neighbours present evidence of more recent interactions than their Sy1 peers (Koulouridis et al 2013).…”
