Date Palm Extract (Phoenix dactylifera) PEGylated Nanoemulsion: Development, Optimization and Cytotoxicity Evaluation

Abstract: Date palm fruit (Phoenix dactylifera) is reputed to have numerous biological activities, including anticancer properties. To utilize the great fortune of this fruit, the current study aimed to maximize its pharmacological activity. Date palm extract (DPE) of Khalas cultivar was obtained in powder form and then was formulated into nanoemulsion (NE). The optimized DPE-NE was formulated along with its naked counterpart followed by studying their physical and chemical properties. A qualitative assessment of total … Show more

“…Additionally, lower F-values of the responses could result in more error in the model, and thus greater F-values are more desirable. Another vital parameter is the lack of fit, which is preferred to be non-significant in order to fit the data with the model [ 30 ].…”

“…Cells were incubated in a 5% CO 2 chamber at 37 °C. The monolayer cultured cells were washed with PBS, and then were treated with EO (10–100 µg/mL) with various test concentrations of tested samples in serum-free media and incubated for 24 h. The medium was aspirated, 0.5 mg/mL of MTT reagent was added, and the solution was incubated at 37 °C for 4 h. After the incubation period, measurements were carried out according to the method protocol described by Khalil et al (2021) [ 5 ].…”

“…Cancer affects all human beings and does not differentiate between gender or age, leading to severe negative health and socio-economic impacts. More than 75% of anti-cancer drugs are directly or indirectly derived from medicinal plants [ 5 ]. In this context, the discovery of new natural product candidates with anti-cancer properties has unique interest for the purpose of medical care [ 6 ].…”

“…The small droplet size of these preparations (commonly 100-500 nm of the size range) makes them resistant to creaming, flocculation, and physical destabilization [42][43][44]. The key benefits include an increase in dermal retention and prolonged duration, reduced drug-protein binding, improved drug permeation, sustained drug release, reduced systemic adverse effects, and ease of use for the inclusion of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs [45][46][47].…”
