DBMS as a Cloud service: Advantages and Disadvantages

Abstract: The service which enables us to use computing as a service across a product is known as cloud computing. Nowadays the cloud computing paradigm has been receiving significant excitement and attention in technological sphere. Cloud computing shares different resources and information between different devices which are located in different places always based on internet connection. According to this, a cloud DBMS is a database management system which acts through cloud computing. It is worth mentioning that the… Show more

“…DBMS is a software designed to assist in maintaining and utilizing huge amount of data that is usually describing the activities of one or more related organizations (Ramakrishnan & Gehrke, 2002). Likewise, the DBMS is also known as a software that supports management of large collections of data and it is used to make the preceding tasks easier (Januzaj, Ajdari & Selimi, 2015). It also provides efficient data access, data independence, data integrity, security, quick application development, support for concurrent access, and recovery from system failures (Januzaj et al, 2015).…”

“…On the other hand, another research, such as [7], outlines the current database management systems that are offered as a cloud service. According to [7], traditional relational database systems (SQL) are able to be integrated onto the cloud to facilitate IoT systems but they need to clarify data migration onto the cloud, parallelization of workload on the cloud, data security issues, and architecture design issues [7]. Additionally, relational databases can be implemented as a cloud database using SCALEDB, which is a storage engine that is compatible with MySQL.…”

“…• ScaleDB is a closed source, but freely available, proprietary storage engine produced by ScaleDB Inc., which is pluggable and compatible with MariaDB and MySQL databases [13]. It is based on a Shared-disk Database Storage Architecture [14] and is designed to offer high performance, scalability and availability for applications with many concurrent users and large datasets.…”
