Malfunction of the tube, whether due to inflammation or to abnormality of structure, is (1) the cause of acute or chronic otitis media, (2) an important cause of secretory otitis media, (3) the cause of deafness in patients with cleft palate, (4) probably a remote cause of cholesteatoma, and (5) it has even been suggested as a cause of Ménière's disease.…”
