Effective strategic purchasing and supplier selection in companies provides businesses with leverage in acquiring goods and services. Thus, companies are in a better position to negotiate prices, discounts, delivery times and logistic channels. Also, strategic purchasing allows for performing a risk assessment to ensure the company’s profitability. This research aimed to identify the key currently deliberated by SMEs for supplier selection, considering such purchasing strategies as (1) cost reduction, (2) risk management, (3) global sourcing, (4) total quality management, (5) sustainable management and (6) supplier management. Also, it aimed to identify the emerging issues related to purchasing strategies. This research work performed a content analysis following a literature review. The Scopus indexation database was selected to conduct the document search. After the refinement process, based on 59 analysed documents, bibliometric assessment tools were applied to identify the key criteria for supplier selection. The TOP6 highest ranked criteria, which corresponds to 80 % of the most referred criteria, include: (1) the quality of goods; (2) compliance with the delivery times; (3) price/cost; (4) supplier reputation and/or market positioning; (5) geographical location; and (6) supplier performance history. The goal of strategic purchasing is to support the companies in achieving long-term goals through its integration into the company’s strategic planning process. It should be identified by the managers as an important resource. Several factors elevate the importance of strategic purchasing, namely, environmental protection, technology advances related to logistics 4.0, and risk assessment related to global sourcing and sustainability. The present research is in line with the findings of the referred literature, i.e., the application of prioritised criteria for the procurement and supplier selection operations in the industrial context, aiming to reduce lead times and logistic costs. The criteria must be aligned with the purchasing strategies adopted by the companies. The manuscript aims to demonstrate that the fundamentals of strategic purchasing strategies can contribute to the improvement of the SME supply process with the application of simple and cost-effective approaches.

Robotics forms an integral part of industry 4.0, the industrial revolution of the 21st century. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of Web of Science (WoS) indexed publications addressing this emerging field from 2011 till June 2022. WoS research publications were firstly analysed along multiple verticals such as annual counts, types, publishing sources, research directions, researchers, organizations, and countries. Next, co-authorship collaborations among authors, organizations, and countries were discovered. This was followed by an analysis of co-occurring keywords related to robotics in industry 4.0. Finally, a detailed citation analysis was carried out to unearth citation linkages among authors, institutions, documents, nations, and journals. Latest trends, under-investigated topics, and future directions are also discussed. Primary results indicate that more than 3000 articles are being published annually in this emerging field, with a total of 18,893 documents published in WoS during the last decade. The 'IEEE Access', Chinese Academy of Science, Wang Y. (USA), and the USA emerged as the topmost productive journal, institution, author, and nation. Porpiglia Francesco (Italy), Chinese Academy Science and USA obtained the highest co-authorship total link strength (TLS); whereas Lee Chengkuo (Singapore), China, Chinese Academy Science, and the IEEE Access scored the highest citation TLS among authors, countries, organizations, and sources respectively. Machine learning (ML) emerged as the highest co-occurring keyword, followed by artificial intelligence (AI). Computer Science emerged as the most trending research domain, followed by general applications. In the future, ML and AI will advance more sophisticated robots in industry 4.0 systems.

A Review of Green Supplier Evaluation and Selection Issues Using MCDM, MP and AI Models

For any industry to improve and expand, the proper evaluation and selection of suppliers is essential. In order to establish whether a supplier is appropriate for working with a company, a system for selecting green suppliers is required. A variety of Decision-Making (DM) models have been created by researchers to address the problems associated with evaluating and choosing green suppliers. In order to address the Green Supplier Evaluation and Selection (GSES) challenge, we did a thorough investigation of ten works of literature, in order to find out which approach is the most widely used and which is more efficient. This study primarily focuses on the findings of ten reviews that examined 1098 research publications from academic journals between 1990 and 2020. 271 DM models examined that were broken down into 170 individual models and 101 combination models, our analysis only looked at the single models. The method of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is the dominant model used by 160 articles, 122 studies used Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and finally 101 research works that utilized the Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) model. In addition, we found that the biggest percentage “62%” of studied articles used multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) models. As a result, the most widely utilized Decision Making models to address the evaluation and selection of green supplier were found to be AHP, DEA, and TOPSIS.
