Decorin as a possible strategy for the amelioration of COVID-19

Abstract: Coronavirus pandemic has emerged as an extraordinary healthcare crisis in modern times. The SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus has high transmission rate, is more aggressive and virulent in comparison to previously known coronaviruses. It primarily attacks the respiratory system by inducing cytokine storm that causes systemic inflammation and pulmonary fibrosis. Decorin is a pluripotent molecule belonging to a leucine rich proteoglycan group that exerts critical role in extracellular matrix (ECM) assembly and regula… Show more

“…Natural product bilirubin nanomedicine can inhibit inflammatory response which has potential in anti-COVID-19 40 . Based on our data that Honghua or Xihonghua may target cell adhesion, which may link to extracellular matrix based targeting in nanomedicine 41 . Moreover, carbon dots could also be applied in anti-COVID-19 42 , 43 .…”

“…Nanoceria is a rare earth nanoparticle that possesses promising anti-inflammatory properties by inhibition of NFκB and MAPK pathways, which could halt the progression of systemic inflammatory complications in COVID-19 patients [130]. Bilirubin, decorin, and silver nanoparticles are other nanomedicines that act in almost similar ways to nanoceria [131][132][133].…”
