Decoupling and Decomposition Analysis of Land Natural Capital Utilization and Economic Growth: A Case Study in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China

Abstract: In order to reduce the depletion of land natural capital and develop economy simultaneously, it is necessary to study how to achieve the strong decoupling relationship between them. However, so far such studies have been relatively limited. Thus, taking the case of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China, this paper firstly analyzes the state of land natural capital utilization in 1999–2017 by using improved ecological footprint. Then, decoupling state is quantified by Tapio decoupling model. Last, major driving … Show more

“…The decoupling model finds applications in various domains such as resources, environment, transportation, construction, and the economy. Its applications include the decoupling problem in energy consumption [50,51], agricultural resource utilization [52,53], and electricity consumption [54]. Carbon decoupling means a gradual reduction in energy consumption based on economic growth [55].…”

“…Their investigation delves into the evolutionary patterns of urban expansion, adopting a perspective grounded in global land optimization management and sustainable development. Investigating how to achieve a strong decoupling relationship between economic growth and land resources is of great significance in reducing the depletion of natural capital at the land-use level [40].…”

“…Ningxia is one of the provinces with the most severe desertification in China, with a desertification area of 2.898 million hm 2 , accounting for 55.8% of the total land area of Ningxia. Land degradation has seriously affected the local ecological environment and people's lives [19,65]. Hence, the accurate anticipation of alterations in soil nutrient levels holds significant relevance in the context of managing sandy soils.…”
