Decreasing Free Radicals Level on High Risk Person After Vitamin C and E Supplement Treatment

Abstract: Abstract.Has become a global issue that the increase in global warming mainly caused by high air pollution levels which are donated by motor vehicle emissions. As a rapidly developing country, Indonesia becomes vulnerable to health problems related to air pollution. Excessive free radicals that is produced by air pollution can initiate stress oxidative. Already known that, stress oxidative trigger many health problems. Vitamin C and E is a non enzymatic antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals. This study… Show more

“…GSH-Px and SOD are important enzymes of the antioxidant system, and their activities are directly proportional to the body's ability to fight against free radicals [ 28 ]. MDA is a product of lipid peroxidation in cell membranes, and its concentrations can indirectly reflect the degree of oxidative tissue damage [ 29 ]. T-AOC indicates the overall level of enzymes and nonenzymatic antioxidants in the body [ 30 ].…”

“…MDA level is generally and widely used as a marker of oxidative stress [6]. In vivo and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were suppressed by antioxidant enzymes activity, vitamins C and E [7], [8]. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme that is important to inhibit oxidative stress that plays a role in converting free radicals to superoxide anion (O2-).…”

“…Heavy air pollution from motor vehicle fumes and cigarettes can increase the formation of free radicals in the body. Free radicals give impact on the pathogenesis of several diseases in humans due to the occurrence of oxidative cell stress (Sitorus et al, 2017). Under normal circumstances, radicals in the body will be eliminated by the body's natural defence mechanism.…”
