Deep eutectic solvent-assisted fabrication of bioinspired 3D carbon–calcium phosphate scaffolds for bone tissue engineering

Abstract: Modification of 3D spongin-derived carbon with tricalcium phosphate achieved in a deep eutectic solvent. The 3D carbon–tricalcium phosphate scaffold shows great potential for stem cell-based tissue engineering.

“…These materials can encompass a wide range of compositions, including metal-organic frameworks, hybrid perovskites, and functional nanocomposites, each tailored for specific applications. [33,34] In catalysis, NADESs serve as efficient and tunable reaction media, facilitating improved selectivity and yield in a range of chemical transformations. Their solubilization capabilities make them valuable in extraction processes for both organic and inorganic compounds, with applications in the purification of natural products and environmental remediation.…”

“…By harnessing the synergistic interactions between inorganic and organic components within DESs, researchers have been able to synthesize hybrid materials exhibiting enhanced performance characteristics. These materials can encompass a wide range of compositions, including metal–organic frameworks, hybrid perovskites, and functional nanocomposites, each tailored for specific applications [33,34] …”

“…In line with previous research, we also explore the following: "for the purpose of this review, composites are defined as those having a distinct phase distributed through their bulk, as opposed to modular or coated components" ( [40], p. 1329). Therefore, with a few exceptions, we did not consider CaPO 4 deposits produced on different materials by various deposition techniques [41][42][43][44][45][46] or CaPO 4 coated with other compounds [47][48][49][50][51]. However, we did include composite coatings.…”
