Deep Eutectic Solvent-Mediated Synthesis of Bullet-Shaped Cerium Zinc Oxide and Sheet-Like Cerium Zinc Hydroxide Nitrate: Colorimetric and Fluorometric Detection of Pyrophosphate Ions

Abstract: This work demonstrates a simple and versatile deep eutectic solvent (DES)-assisted synthesis of bullet-shaped cerium−zinc oxide (Ce− ZnO) and sheet-like cerium−zinc hydroxide nitrate (Ce−Zn 5 (OH) 8 (NO 3 ) 2 • 2H 2 O). DES could serve not only as a green solvent but also as a superior template to produce these two different hierarchically shaped materials. Interestingly, Ce−ZnO shows catalytic activity toward polymerization of dopamine to initially pink color quinone derivatives with the visible light absorpt… Show more

“…3–6 Although various techniques have been evolved for the detection of pyrophosphate, in terms of sensitivity and cost, fluorescent chemosensors are highly attractive for pyrophosphate detection. 19–25 Also, fluorescence-based sensing is a rational choice, as it is rapid, easy to handle, and has facile applications such as the detection of analytes, cell imaging, disease diagnosis, etc . 4,26–30…”

“…The longer the arrow is, the greater the contribution of a variable to PC. Therefore, 12 common peaks (1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,11,12,14,15) were used for the subsequent correlation analysis between chemical components and efficacy.…”

“…Several methods have been used to screen active compounds, such as affinity ultrafiltration, biological sensors and nanoenzymes, electrochemical analysis, and immobilization of target molecules [6,8,[10][11][12][13][14]. However, there are some shortcomings, such as false-positive effects, preparation of carrier materials, and the need for expensive equipment, thus limiting their applications.…”

“…The studies focused on evaluating the extraction efficiency of compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids. 11–13 DESs are safe, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, 14 and enable high extraction yields, so DESs are often called solvents of the 21st century, which could soon replace organic solvents. 8,12…”
