Defects in the CD8+ T cell response to arthritogenic alphaviruses

Abstract: Arthritogenic alphaviruses have infected millions of people globally. Following acute infection, symptoms of joint pain, swelling, and stiffness can last for months or even years, likely due to persistence of viral RNA and antigen, which also is seen in mice.
