Deformation effects in the alpha accompanied cold ternary fission of even-even 244-260Cf isotopes

Abstract: Abstract.Within the Unified ternary fission model (UTFM), the alpha accompanied ternary fission of even-even [244][245][246][247][248][249][250][251][252][253][254][255][256][257][258][259][260] Cf isotopes has been studied by taking the interacting barrier as the sum of Coulomb and proximity potential. 132 Sn (N=82, Z=50) as the heavier fragment. We have included the effect of deformation and orientation of fragments and this has revealed that in addition to closed shell effect, ground state deformation also … Show more

“…For the α-accompanied ternary fission of 252 Cf, we have also presented the comparison of our calculated isotopic ternary yields at T = 1 and 2 MeV (solid circles) with the experimental data (solid squares) and other available theoretical model [33,35,41] results (open and asterisk symbols) in figure 7. As mentioned earlier, the experimental data and other theoretical model results are for cold spontaneous fission but our presented results are for fragment excitation energies at T = 1 and 2 MeV.…”

“…Further, the ternary fragmentation of 252 Cf for all possible third fragments was also investigated in a triangular configuration [37] as well as in collinear configuration [38]. Within the unified ternary fission model, Santhosh et al [39][40][41] studied the cold alpha accompanied ternary fission of -Cf nuclei. Further, they have also calculated the ternary emission probability and kinetic energies of the long-range α-particles which are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.…”

“…The possibility of true ternary fission in 252 Cf was studied based on the three cluster model (TCM) [34]. Santhosh and Krishnan [35] have studied the α accompanied ternary fission of various even-even Cf isotopes using the unified ternary fission model (UTFM). Using the one-dimensional Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation, the barrier penetrability P and hence the relative yield was calculated for the spherical and deformed fragments.…”

“…Yao et al [31] used different proximity potentials to calculate the half-lives of the alpha decay for even-even nuclei from light to heavy mass. The proximity potential has been used broadly for studies in the areas of alpha decay [32][33][34][35], cluster decay [36][37][38][39], ternary fission [40][41][42], alpha decay of heavy and superheavy nuclei [43][44][45] and cluster radioactivity of superheavy nuclei [44]. In the present work, which is an extension of our earlier work [46], we have computed the penetrability and half-lives using the two different proximity potentials for the cold binary fission of 230-250 U isotopes, which were compared with the available experimental data collected from Holden et al [47].…”
