Delays in the Road Construction Projects from Risk Management Perspective

Abstract: Delays in the execution stage of road construction projects are one of the significant challenges. The incapability of finishing projects according to schedule has attracted many researchers’ attention to this issue. This study has been formed to investigate delays in road construction projects from a risk management perspective. In this study, risks have been identified by structured interviews with experts. Qualitative risk analysis by a survey of experts and quantitative risk analysis by analytical hierarch… Show more

“…Delay in the execution phase of road construction is one of the major challenges, especially in project locations with soft soil characteristics (Ghaleh et al, 2021). A lot of factors were affecting delay in the field, based on research using Delay Risk Assessment Models (DRAMs) shows that weather conditions and late land acquisition were the most probable and severe delay factors (Antoniou, 2021).…”

“…The study used a risk breakdown structure to classify the risks from the literature, a checklist, a questionnaire, and Back Propagation Multi-Layer Perceptron (BP-MLP) Artificial Neural Network to generate the final classification. Mohajeri Borje Ghaleh et al [17] used a survey and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to investigate risks in road projects that can lead to schedule delays without considering acceleration, quantification, or optimization of the schedule. Nabawy and Khodeir [18] offered specific guidelines for a quantitative risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulation in infrastructure projects, simulating the impact on the completion date and cost but not accounting for schedule acceleration or optimization.…”
