“…With the current study, this issue could not be answered. Similar findings of improvement of function were described in other series of deltoid flap repair, 5,14,32,37,43,47 in contrast to Glanzmann et al, 27 who described only a minor functional gain in their series. In our study, factors that were associated with lower flexion scores included tear size (which means tears involving 3 tendons), and fatty infiltration of the subscapularis muscle.…”

“…Gupta et al 12 described a prospective ob- E. SAVARESE AND R. ROMEO servational study of 24 patients who underwent interposition repair of massive rotator cuff tears with human dermal allograft; all patients showed a significant improvement in pain, range of motion, and strength, with ultrasonography-confirmed "fully intact" repairs in 76% of patients who were followed up for a 3-year period on average. Glanzmann et al 13 performed retrospective assessment of 31 deltoid flap transfers for massive posterosuperior rotator cuff tears at midterm and long-term follow-up examinations (mean, 53 and 175 months, respectively). They showed that functional gains were minor but improvement in pain and patient satisfaction was high.…”

“…Its main disadvantage is the compromise of deltoid muscle integrity [33]. The conclusions regarding the usefulness of this procedure are quite different.…”

“…The conclusions regarding the usefulness of this procedure are quite different. Schneeberger concluded that the modified deltoid flap is a viable alternative for the treatment of irreparable coifa ruptures in young patients, since of the 57 patients 91% showed pain relief [33]. Glanzmann has not found any advantage of this invasive technique in the face of arthroscopic debridement, which does not alter the integrity of the deltoid.…”
