Democracia Local Na Cidade De São Paulo: Participação E Cultura Política

Abstract

The local level can be seen as a privileged space for democratic vitality, especially due to the leading role that civil society plays in political action within more specific geographic locations. Therefore, the Sivis Institute developed the Local Democracy Index (LDI) project with the objective of measuring the quality of democracy in Brazilian cities in its various dimensions, but with special emphasis on culture and political participation. Based on this initiative, efforts were made to give new impetus to studies of local democracy in Brazil, which could offer new ways to overcome current democratic challenges. This paper presents the special issue based on the results of the application of the LDI in the city of São Paulo in 2019, exploring its implications for the state of participation and political culture in this municipality.
