Density and Viscosity of Binary Liquid Mixtures of Ethanol + 1-Hexanol and Ethanol + 1-Heptanol from (293.15 to 328.15) K at 0.1 MPa

Abstract: This paper presents experimental viscosity and density measurements for two binary mixtures of ethanol with 1-hexanol and 1-heptanol that cover the complete composition range from (293.15 to 328.15) K at 0.1 MPa. A vibrating tube densimeter provides density measurements, whereas viscosities come from a pellet microviscometer. The excess molar volumes calculated from the experimental data have positive deviations from ideality over the temperature range. Calculated viscosity deviations from the experimental dat… Show more

“…The U-tube is subject to a harmonic electromagnetic force, and the oscillation period of the tube filled with sample is related to the fluid density. 17 The densimeter is calibrated periodically during the measurements using two reference fluids: dry air and ultrapure water. Density and temperature standard uncertainties are estimated to be 8 × 10 −5 g•cm −3 and 0.01 K, respectively.…”

“…The stated reproducibility from the manufacturer is 1 × 10 –6 g·cm –3 for density and 0.001 K for temperature. The U-tube is subject to a harmonic electromagnetic force, and the oscillation period of the tube filled with sample is related to the fluid density . The densimeter is calibrated periodically during the measurements using two reference fluids: dry air and ultrapure water.…”

“…They do not nevertheless give an estimation of uncertainty. Numerous publications have analytically measured the density of ethanol at °C [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. From these we calculated that the mean density (± Standard deviation (SD)) of ethanol is 0.78974 ± 0.00059 g/cm 3 (% coefficient of variance (CV) = 0.07481).…”

“…We have tested the predictive capability of Eqs. (7)-(13) using 712 viscosity experimental measurements from (293 to 328) K [52][53][54] at atmospheric pressure. The new correlation agrees with the experimental measurements within an average absolute percentage deviation of 3.94% while the hard sphere model [8] predicts the viscosity within an average absolute percentage deviation of 4.0%.…”
