Abstract:Treatment with dental implants can be predictable and safe for the rapidly growing geriatric population. Geriatric patients who are medically stable are suitable candidates for osseointegrated implant surgery, which facilitates oral function, comfort, and quality of life. A review of the 47 geriatric patients treated supports the conclusion that dental implants can be successfully placed and restored with fixed implant-supported or removable implant-supported prostheses.
“…Implant therapy, while highly effective, does have the potential for both technical and biological complications, as well as the potential for psychological complications if the patient’s expectations are not satisfied. The patient should also be aware that implant components, especially overdenture attachments, wear out and that ongoing maintenance will be required 5 .…”

“…Successful rehabilitation of the edentulous condition requires functional and psychosocial adaptation by the patient. Quality of life is markedly affected by the amount of satisfaction with their oral rehabilitation 5 , so a satisfaction questionnaire for individuals was also carried out.…”
All the patients in this study reported a considerable improvement in the masticatory function and prostheses stability following treatment. It is possible to propose that the use of mandibular implants overdenture should become the selected treatment for totally edentulous patients to facilitate oral function and quality of life.

“…Even though age is not a contra-indication to implant treatment, it is essential to select a patient who can tolerate the surgical treatment [27]. The patient should also be mentally and physically healthy, and should have the mental and physical dexterity to be able to maintain adequate oral hygiene around the implants.…”

The aim of this review is to throw light on the interrelationship between periodontics, restorative dentistry and prosthodontics in geriatric population. Increased life expectancy along with appropriate dental treatment in the younger ages leads to retention of more number of teeth in the advanced ages. To maintain these teeth disease free and in function in the older individuals is a multi-faceted challenge. This article describes the various restorative and prosthodontic treatment modalities that are commonly used in the dental rehabilitation of geriatric patients and their relationship with the periodontium and gingival health.
“…The location of the craniofacial implant has been reported to impact success with nasal implant success ranging from 71.4% to 100%, and orbital implant success ranging from 27% (irradiated implant sites) to 75% (nonradiated implant sites) . Dental implants have been reported to be successful in geriatric patients but there are limited reports on the role of craniofacial implants in a geriatric oncologic population. The purpose of the study is to describe the process for management of a geriatric patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the nose reconstructed with a treatment workflow utilizing craniofacial implants.…”
This clinical report describes the expeditious treatment of a geriatric patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the nose treated with total rhinectomy, craniofacial implant placement, and a nasal prosthesis.
