Dependence of the Lifetime upon the Excitation Energy and Intramolecular Energy Transfer Rates: The 5D0 EuIII Emission Case

Abstract: In many Eu(III)-based materials, the presence of an intermediate energy level, such as ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) states or defects, that mediates the energy transfer mechanisms can strongly affect the lifetime of the (5)D(0) state, mainly at near-resonance (large transfer rates). We present results for the dependence of the (5)D(0) lifetime on the excitation wavelength for a wide class of Eu(III)-based compounds: ionic salts, polyoxometalates (POMs), core/shell inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) and na… Show more

“…3 were solved numerically by a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method with an adaptive integration step, where the initial populations of the ground states (F-centre and benzoate) were set to 1/2 and zero for the other states 61 . These equations were propagated up to 0.1 s and the steadystate populations were used as the starting populations for a new propagation to determine the lifetimes 56 .…”

“…Lifetimes and oscillator strengths have been studied as a function of local environment [11][12][13][14], ion concentration [15][16][17], and particle size [18][19][20][21][22][23]. But so far, research has focused solely on detecting and enhancing spontaneous MD emission, with no work done on selective excitation through magnetic fields.…”
