Benthic oligochaetes were sampled on three occasions (June, August and October 1992) in the upper (0-10 cm) and hyporheic (35-45 cm depths) sediments at five sites of the River Moselle, from upstream of the town of Epinal to Velle-sur-Moselle. The first site (upstream from Epinal) is considered as unpolluted and the four remaining sites are polluted by industrial effluents. The most polluted stations were generally dominated by the pollution tolerant taxon Limnodrilus. Numbers of individuals of this taxon decreased at the less polluted last site in recovery zone, and were also scarce in the first unpolluted site. It is noteworthy that these tendencies were observed in both superficial and hyporheic substrates and to the greatest degree in hyporheic ones. At the unpolluted site, the hyporheic habitat is dominated by the groundwater species Propappus volki, Pristina spp., Pristinella spp. At the less polluted site (last site), the deep sediments are dominated by groundwater species and the Tubificidae without hair setae decrease from June to October. As a result of water exchange between superficial and subterranean waters, superficial substrates of the first and the last stations tend to be colonised by a high proportion of hyporheic species that suggests that flow is primarily from subterranean to superficial waters. The contrary is the case at other polluted stations which are characterised by the invasion of hyporheic substrates by the pollution tolerant superficial taxa Limnodrilus. This suggests that water flows from the river to the deeper groundwater. These two stations are located near drinking water plants which utilise groundwater, thus increasing the vulnerability of groundwater to surface contaminants.

Sequential extraction defines fractions of phosphorus of distinct natures and properties in sediments. The organic fraction is partially characterised, sometimes regarded as refractory and stable in spite of variations observed in situ. The unidentified fractions are generally judged complex forms associated with the humic substances. The organic forms of phosphorus were extracted by alkaline solution, following extraction of the inorganic and hydrolysable organic forms in an acid solution. In the sediment of an eutrophic coastal lagoon, organic phosphorus extracted with NaOH accounts for 18% of total phosphorus and 79% of the organic fraction. In order to better characterise the organic phosphorus in the sediments, the GPC chromatography technique was used. Thus several distinct organic fractions were observed: condensed humic acids, with a low phosphorus content, and molecules of molecular compactness, such as fulvic acid which contains the majority of the phosphorus. phosphorus / organic matter / sediment / wetland / gel permeation chromatography Résumé-Interactions du phosphore et de la matière organique dans le sédiment d'une zone humide. Des extractions séquentielles permettent de définir des fractions de phosphore de nature et de propriétés distinctes dans les sédiments. La fraction organique est partiellement caractérisée, parfois considérée comme réfractaire et stable malgré des variations quantitatives observées in situ. Les fractions non identifiées sont généralement assimilées à des formes complexes associées aux substances humiques. Des formes organiques du phosphore ont été extraites par une solution alcaline, après extraction des formes inorganiques et des formes organiques hydrolysables en milieu acide. Dans le sédiment d'une lagune côtière eutrophe, elles représentent 18.% du phosphore total et 79.% de la fraction organique. Dans le but de mieux caractériser la nature du phosphore organique des sédiments, nous avons utilisé la technique de chromatographie de perméation sur gel. Ceci a permis de définir plusieurs fractions organiques distinctes : des acides humiques condensés contenant peu de phosphore et des molécules de plus faible encombrement moléculaire, de type acide fulvique, contenant la majorité du phosphore. phosphore / matière organique / sédiment / zone humide / chromatographie de perméation sur gel

A study has been carried out on the acid soluble fraction (hydrosysis at pH 1.5, 3N HC1, 20 % KG) of organic matter (OM) in the highly calcareous lacustrine sediments of the Jura region, France. Amino acids (AA's) were quantified and determined ninhydrin photometry and HPLC respectively. There was a high degree of interference by calcium in both procedures. The mechanism of interference is explained and methodology adopted to overcome it, by removal of calcium, are dealt with. The results of both methods are compared. Dosage des acides a-aminés dans les sédiments lacustres jurassiens en présence de fortes teneurs en CaCC^. Comparaison de deux méthodes : colorimétrique et chromatographiqueMots clés : acides aminés, calcium, sédiment, lac, CLHP, ninhydrine.Des études sont réalisées sur des sédiments de nombreux lacs Jurassiens, à matrice calcaire. Elles portent en particulier sur la matière organique. Nous nous sommes particulièrement intéressés à la fraction acidosoluble extraite à pH 1.5 à l'aide de HC1 3N à 20 % KC1 et avons cherché à quantifier globalement les acides aminés puis à identifier les plus abondants d'entre eux. Que ce soit pour le dosage global, par colorimétrie ou pour leur identification par CLHP, nous avons rencontré des difficultés dues à une forte teneur en calcium dans nos échantillons. Nous traitons ici du rôle du calcium sur les deux méthodes analytiques, de son élimination et comparons les résultats des deux méthodes.
