Description of two new species of Seinura Fuchs, 1931 (Nematoda: Aphelenchoididae) from Iran

Abstract: Two new species of Seinura are described and illustrated using both morphological and molecular characters. Seinura persica n. sp. is characterized by having females with a distinct cephalic region, stylet 19.5 (18-20) μm long, four incisures in the lateral fields, position of excretory pore anterior to the base of metacorpus, post-uterine sac 54.8 (50-60) μm long, and an elongate-conoid tail with a shallow depression on the dorsal side ending in a sharply pointed tip. Males have body length of 467 and 592 μm,… Show more

“…The predatory behavior of Seinura species seems to be the common feeding habit ( Hunt, 1993 ; Kaisa, 2000 ; Adeldoost et al, 2016 ; Kanzaki et al, 2018 ). However, we do not know the feeding behavior of the new species as it was discovered under the quarantine inspections.…”

“…Based on the combination of (i) excretory pore at the base of metacarpus or slightly anterior, (ii) long PUS occupying over half of the vulva-anus distance; and (iii) elongate conoid tail with narrower distal region, the new species is similar to the following species of the genus: S. caverna ( Kanzaki et al, 2018 ), S. chertkovi ( Dmitrenko, 1966 ), S. christiei ( Goodey, 1960 ), S. hyrcania ( Adeldoost et al, 2016 ), S. longicaudata (Cobb, 1893; Goodey, 1960 ), S. persica ( Adeldoost et al, 2016 ), S. steineri ( Hechler and Taylor, 1965 ), and S. tenuicaudata ( de Man, 1895 ; Goodey, 1960 ). The detailed comparisons of the new species with aforementioned species are as follows.…”

“…Several representatives of Aphelenchoidea (Fuchs, 1937) have been reported from Iran, and currently the genera Aphelenchoides (Fischer, 1894), Aprutides (Scognamiglio et al, 1970), Basilaphelenchus , Cryptaphelenchus (Fuchs, 1937), Devibursaphelenchus (Kakulia, 1967), Ektaphelenchus (Fuchs, 1937), Ekta phelenchoides (Baujard, 1984), Laimaphelenchus (Fuchs, 1937), Robustodorus (Andrássy, 2007), Seinura (Fuchs, 1931), and Sheraphelenchus (Nickle, 1970) are known that occur in the country (e.g. Pourjam and Bert, 2006;Pedram et al, 2011Pedram et al, , 2012Pedram et al, , 2018aAtighi et al, 2012a, b;Moosavi et al, 2014;Miraeiz et al, 2015;Adeldoost et al, 2016;Pedram, 2017Pedram, , 2019Aliramaji et al, 2018Aliramaji et al, , 2019Aliramaji et al, , 2020Mobasseri et al, 2018;Mirzaie Fouladvand et al, 2019a, b). Schistonchus Cobb, 1927 occurs in the country with only one representative, the type species, Schistonchus caprifici (Gasparrini, 1864) Cobb, 1927, being reported in three conference abstracts (Kheiri and Goldansaz, 1998;Pakniyat and Taghizadeh, 2000;Namjoo et al, 2019) with no morphological and morphometric data.…”
