Design, Analysis and Experimental Evaluation of Photovoltaic Forced Convection Solar Dryer for the Tropics

Abstract: The photovoltaic (pv) forced convection solar dryer comprises the solar collector, dryer and pv assemblies. It is designed for a continuous operation throughout the day. The direct solar irradiation is utilized during sunshine hours and it automatically switches power supply to the battery during cloud covers and non-insolation periods. The inclusion of a heat reservoir enables heat transfer to continue during this period. In this study, thermal and dryer analyses were done. Experimental investigations were ca… Show more

“…Figure 5 showed the temperature various level. This result was slightly higher than 56.7 o C maximum chamber temperature reported by [15] for hybrid photovoltaic integrated greenhouse dryer and 55 o C by [16] for forced convention photovoltaic solar dryer for the tropics. The temperatures range inside the hybrid dryer chamber was much higher than that inside the solar dryer chamber and ambient temperature during most hours of the daylight.…”

“…This drying technique is in no way a new concept. Over the past four decades, there has been a steady evolution of solar dryer technology from natural convection types (direct and passive mode) to forced convection types [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9].…”
