Design and Characterization of Periodically Conductive Woven Fabric

Abstract: In this paper, a novel kind of electromagnetic (EM) functional textiles is proposed, which show high-pass characteristics as they interact with EM waves. The periodically conductive woven fabric was designed, fabricated, and measured. Specifically, by means of unit cell model building and EM simulation, the theoretical S21 (transmission coefficient) and S11 (reflection coefficient) curves were obtained. A concrete sample was fabricated through weaving process, and its transmission characteristics were measured… Show more

“…24 The existing research work included the design of different conductive units, study on the influences of size parameters, exploration of processing methods and the filtering characteristics of curved structures and three-dimensional structures. 5–13 However, the research object in the previous studies was mostly single-layer structure, namely the designed and prepared FSFs only include one FSS layer, resulting in the limitation of the product type as well as the characteristics.…”

“…25,26 Also, the effectiveness of the design approach, simulation technique, and preparation process were analyzed in detail. [27][28][29] However, the existing work has mainly focused on single-layer FSFs and the electromagnetic transmission characteristics are relatively limited. Based on single-layer FSFs, cross-shaped double-layer and three-layer FSFs were proposed and explored tentatively.…”

“…In fact, conductive yarns and non-conductive yarns can be interwoven periodically to form grid-type FSFs using weaving or knitting technology. 11,12 Such products have excellent softness, air permeability and flexibility, but the types of conductive units are limited and the size of the grid-type unit is extremely difficult to control. Therefore, the practical application is restricted.…”
