Design and Development of the Brain Training System for the Digital “Maintain Your Brain” Dementia Prevention Trial

Abstract: Background Dementia is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and interventions aimed at reducing the prevalence and burden of the disease are urgently needed. Maintain Your Brain (MYB) is a randomized controlled trial of a multimodal digital health intervention targeting modifiable dementia risk factors to combat cognitive decline and potentially prevent dementia. In addition to behavioral modules targeting mood, nutrition, and physical exercise, a new Brain Training System (BTS) will deliver… Show more

“…A unique aspect to the approach taken in this study is the customization of intervention, as required program modules only reflect the risk factors for a particular participant. Participants in the intervention group will receive information about these topics—Dubbed “Physical Activity”, “Nutrition”, “Peace of Mind”, and “Brain Training”—As well as personalized coaching to instruct participants and help overcome barriers in progress [54]. Participants will be given 2–4 modules to complete in the first year (based on their individual assessments), followed by quarterly booster sessions and annual follow-up sessions.…”

“…Neural network structure model is where n is the number of input nodes, r is the number of hidden nodes, and the number of output nodes is 1. The number of neurons in the input layer of the neural network is determined by the influencing factors [ 16 , 17 ]. In this paper, the physiological and biochemical indexes which can obviously reflect the physiological function and the professional training years are taken as the influencing factors.…”

“…The Maintain Your Brain (MYB) trial (trial registration: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry ACTRN 12618000851268) is an internet-delivered multidomain RCT designed to target modifiable risk factors for AD and dementia (31) . The MYB trial is one of the largest online cognitive decline-prevention trials and has recruited 6,236 Australians aged 55-77 years with multiple dementia risk factors but no dementia diagnosis (32) . Participants were recruited into MYB from the Sax Institute's 45 and Up Study.…”
