Design and Implementation of Quantity Calculation Method Based on BIM Data

Abstract: Manual quantity takeoff using two-dimensional (2D) drawings and personal knowledge is error-prone and time-consuming. Theoretically, quantity can be automatically calculated from building information model more quickly and reliably by extracting geometric data and semantic attributes of building elements. Specific construction classification systems embedded in mainstream modeling software for building information modeling (BIM) make it difficult for countries adopting different systems to calculate quantity d… Show more

“…The use of BIM as an advanced information management methodology has been rapidly adopted and has become a key cornerstone in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings [50,51]. Its progressive adoption has been driven by its ability to integrate with emerging technologies such as augmented or virtual reality, implementation with IoT devices, and Geographic Information System (GIS) systems [52][53][54].…”

“…However, BIM has been implemented in the infrastructure sector. It offers similar benefits to construction projects regarding project visualization (Vitásek & Zak, 2018;Xing et al, 2020), clash detection (Elyano & Yuliastuti, 2021;Xing et al, 2020), traffic analysis (Castañeda et al, 2021), road e-ISSN: 2723-6692 🕮 p-ISSN: 2723-6595 & pavement design (Tang et al, 2020), existing road analysis (Vignali et al, 2021), quantity takeoff (Chen et al, 2022;Nguyen et al, 2022;Taghaddos et al, 2019), cost estimating (Vitásek & Zak, 2018), and information management (Lin et al, 2020). Over the last two years, there has been significant growth in BIM adoption for transportation infrastructure projects, and this trend is projected to continue.…”
