Design of a Double-Mode Plasmonic Wavelength Filter Using a Defective Circular Nano-Disk Resonator Coupled to Two Mim Waveguides

Abstract: Various resonance modes, high transmission, and quality factor with simple design are highly desirable parameters for realizing nano-integrated plasmonic devices. In the context, a plasmonic structure consisting of two straight waveguides MIM coupled one central defective circular nano-disk resonator (CNDR) is proposed in this work. The insulator and metal of the proposed plasmonic filter are air and silver, respectively. The plasmonic filter is designed and investigated numerically by using the finite differe… Show more

“…Several different Nano-guiding MIM devices based on SPPs have been investigated in recent years such as filters [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15], power splitters [16][17][18][19][20][21], Y-shaped combiners [22], directional couplers [2,23] and plasmonic refractive index sensors [24][25][26][27][28]. There have also been extensive efforts in designing WDMs based on MIM plasmonic waveguides [29][30][31][32][33][34].…”

“…Since the width of the waveguide is 100 nm, smaller than the incident wavelength, only the fundamental TM mode is excited in the structure. The TM mode dispersion relation is expressed as [34,35]:…”

“…Recently, different designs of plasmonic filters based on MIM waveguides configurations have been proposed such as, nanodisk and ring cavities [23], rectangular cavity [24,25], spiral [26], tooth cavity filter [27] and complementary splitring resonators [28]. These devices can be bandpass filters or bandstop filters [29][30][31][32][33][34]. As is well known, the bandwidth is an essential property of SPPs stop-band filters.…”

“…Optical switching can be achieved through various methods, including electro-optic [18,19], all-optical mechanisms [20,21] and thermal optical mechanisms [3,22,23]. Especially for optical switches and waveguides based on SPPs, they commonly have many excellent merits such as comparative simple structure, low transmission loss, long transmission distance and other useful characteristics [7,24,25]. For example, waveguides with insulator-metal-insulator (IMI) or metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structures have attracted much attention recently because of the above reasons [26][27][28][29].…”
