Design Strategy for Recycled Aggregate Concrete: A Review of Status and Future Perspectives

Abstract: Currently, a number of disadvantages hampers the use of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA). The current review proves that concretes made with complete replacement of natural aggregate with RCA allow the production of high-quality concrete. One of the possibilities for improving concrete properties with RCA is the use of extended curing and pozzolanic materials with varying cement ratios. The potential use of RCA concretes is in the production of high-value materials that increase environmental and financial b… Show more

“…In addition, even with lighter concrete, such as the concrete coating increases with crumb rubber and fibre, the results obtained for sound insulating at high frequencies are further enhanced [130]. As a result, high replacement of aggregate (80-100%) can be carried out in concrete for non-bearing structures to increase sound absorption [127,[131][132][133]. Furthermore, Table 8 shows the acoustic absorption property of the different concrete types, as several researchers have reported.…”

“…After water, it is the second most-consumed material by humans [1]. The manufacture of concrete significantly depletes natural resources [2,3]. There is a legal need to employ alternative and renewable resources in concrete production to maintain the ecological balance [4].…”

“…Industrial wastes have advantageous components, such as silica, calcium oxide, ferrous metals, etc., which can produce harder mass when incorporated into concrete [10]. As a solution to river sand scarcity and industrial waste recycling, such wastes can be substituted into cement, aggregate, or both, resulting in sustainable concrete and green technology [11][12][13][14][15].…”
